Meet Eric

A Message from Eric Walton

Here we go again - another federal election! That makes it four federal elections in seven years.

Imagine how a Green win would shake-up and wake-up the old parties. I believe that electing Green MP’s is the single best way to teach the older parties that their non-cooperation and failure to develop a real climate change strategy or a serious anti-poverty strategy is unacceptable. It would signal the (slow) beginning of a much needed change towards a Parliamentary culture that focuses more on the general public interest instead of primarily partisan advantage.

Canadians deserve a government that can effectively problem solve and innovate in the public interest.

-       A government that succeeds in dramatically reducing child poverty like they did in Denmark and The Netherlands.

-       A government that understands that environmental sustainability and economic health are interconnected as they do in Sweden.

-       A government that is not afraid to make itself truly accountable to its own citizens through electoral reform as happened in New Zealand.

-       A government practicing inspired diplomacy and shrewd overseas development aid to build peace as demonstrated by Norway.

Climate Change and Ocean Change are accelerating even as the political will to act in Canada is shamefully absent. Rapidly growing unemployment – especially youth unemployment – during a deep recession is a crisis that will have serious long-term social and economic consequences unless substantive policy steps are implemented soon.  Federal financial responsibility has gone out the window with politically expedient tax cuts that add tens of billions of dollars each year to a growing national debt – now at more than $ 562 billion and climbing.

This is no way to run a country – especially one with such great potential to make a real positive difference in the world and in the lives of all Canadians.

It’s now time to elect the first Greens to Parliament.  We will speak truth to power.
